The Head of the Charles Regatta is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and a premier tentpole in the New England fall calendar. As the team prepared to celebrate the event’s 60th anniversary, they needed a visual identity that felt celebratory and forward-thinking while honoring the event’s rich history.
Our solution was to design a visual identity for HOCR’s 60th anniversary that honors its legacy while bringing the energy of the event into the present. The system celebrates Boston, the fall season, and the defining forces of race weekend: the power and precision of the crews, the electricity of the spectators, and the intensity of competition. More than a commemorative mark, the identity functions as a storytelling platform, built with rhythm, momentum, and emotional resonance.
The creative captured the spirit of Boston and the Head of the Charles, its river, bridges, autumn energy, and six decades of rowing tradition, while feeling fresh and distinct from past years. The design emphasized depth, storytelling, and a strong visual identity that’s both uniquely Boston and worthy of the milestone.
